REGISTER

rules & regulations

General

  • All participants and spectators must adhere to the rules and regulations set by Smash Sports.
  • Cooperation with Smash Sports officials and volunteers is required at all times. For any concerns or issues, please reach out to the tournament officials or Smash Sports administrators.
  • Dispose of any waste or recyclables in the designated bins.
  • No food or drinks are permitted within the court area; designated eating areas must be used.
  • Remain away from the courts until you are called. Only assigned players and officials are allowed in the court area.
  • Do not walk across or near the courts during active play (during a rally).
  • Smash Sports is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
  • Smash Sports will not be liable for injuries sustained during the tournament.
  • Players must bring a valid ID showing their date of birth.
  • Feather shuttles will be used for play. Smash Sports will provide one shuttle per match. Any additional shuttles required must be provided by the players.

Conditions of Registration

  • All participants in the Smash Sports Junior Badminton Open Tournament agree to comply with the rules of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
  • Players must provide proof of age (passport or birth certificate) if requested by Smash Sports.
  • Each player must complete the online or hard copy registration form. Payments must be made in full before the registration deadline. No refunds will be issued for players who do not show up. For full refunds, notice of withdrawal must be given before the registration deadline.
  • All players (or guardians for players under 18) must accept and sign the Liability Release & Waiver form and the Photo Consent form before participating in any matches.
  • Prizes must be collected on the day of the tournament during the awards ceremony.
  • Smash Sports reserves the right to expel players for misconduct or abusive behavior.
  • Smash Sports may amend rules to suit the needs of the tournament.
  • Age categories may be combined if there are fewer than four participants in a category.
  • Players must check in at least 30 minutes before their scheduled start time.

Dress Code & Equipment

  • All players must wear appropriate badminton attire and non-marking court shoes.
  • Players without proper attire or shoes may not be permitted to play. Shoe rentals are available from Smash Sports for $5 per pair.
  • Smash Sports is not responsible for any damage to rackets or other equipment during the tournament.

Tournament and Game Rules

  • Matches will follow BWF rules unless otherwise modified by Smash Sports.
  • Each participant is guaranteed a minimum of two matches.
  • Players must play on the assigned courts without exception.
  • Matches will start with a toss of the shuttle; the winner of the toss can choose between service or court side.
  • Matches will be the best of three games, up to 21 points.
  • If the score reaches 20-20, a two-point lead is required to win. If the score reaches 29-29, the first player/team to score 30 wins.
  • In matches that go to a third game, players must switch sides when one player reaches 11 points.
  • Players are given two minutes for warm-up before the start of their match.
  • Score sheets will be handled by the umpire. Players should confirm the final score with the umpire before leaving the court.

Flight B (Players Who Lose Their First Match)

  • Matches will consist of one game up to 21 points, except for the semifinals and finals, which may be best of three depending on available time.

Knockout Stage Matches (Semifinals & Finals)

  • All knockout matches will be best of three games, up to 21 points.
  • Players must switch sides at 11 points in the third game.

Rest and Water Break

  • A one-minute interval is allowed between games.

Injuries and Walkovers

  • Players must arrive on time for their matches. Players who do not arrive within five minutes of being called will forfeit the match (walkover).
  • If a player is injured during a match, they must decide within five minutes whether to continue or forfeit the match.
  • Players who give a walkover due to injury may continue in other events if eligible.
  • If a player does not show up for a match, they will be considered a walkover for that event but may continue to participate in other events.
  • The tournament committee reserves the right to modify the ranking system in case of walkovers or injuries in a group.
