rules & regulations

TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW

The tournament will consist of a league stage followed by playoffs. The league stage will use a round-robin format which will span for over 7 weeks, and the playoffs will be divided into two flights: Champions Flight and Consolation Flight.

Match Days for league stage: Sundays from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

LEAGUE STAGE

Match Structure:

  • Each match day consists of 4 categories
    • 2 Men’s Doubles 
    • 2 Mixed Doubles
    • 1 Women’s Doubles
  • Each match is played as Best of 3 games.

Game Scoring:

  • Each Game is played to 21 points.
  • When the score is 20-20, the side that gains a 2-point lead wins or at 29 all, the side scoring the 30th point, wins that game.

Points System:

  • Match Day Points: Each team earns a point for each category match they win which will be added to the league standings table 
  • Tiebreakers: If teams are tied in match day points:
    • The team with the most Games won throughout the tournament will be ranked higher.
    • If still tied, the tournament director will make the final decision.

Scheduling:

  • Each match day features 5 team battles (1 court for 2 teams), with each team playing once per day.
  • Matches are scheduled on 5 courts.

Refereeing:

  • Matches will be self-refereed. Teams must agree on rules and officiating before the match begins. Disputes should be resolved amicably or reported to the tournament director.

PLAYOFF STRUCTURE

Overview:

Post the league phase of 7 weeks a rest week is given, post that the playoffs will take place for 2 weeks:

  • Champions Flight: The top 4 teams from the league stage.
  • Consolation Flight: The teams placed 5-8 positions from the league stage.


Seeding:

  • Teams will be seeded based on their final league standings.


Champions Flight:

  • Semi-Final Matchups:
    • Semi-Final 1: 1st Seed vs. 4th Seed
    • Semi-Final 2: 2nd Seed vs. 3rd Seed
  • Final:
    • Final: Winner of Semi-Final 1 vs. Winner of Semi-Final 2
  • Third Place Match:
    • Third Place: Loser of Semi-Final 1 vs. Loser of Semi-Final 2


Consolation Flight:

  • Semi-Final Matchups:
    • Semi-Final 1: 5th Seed vs. 8th Seed
    • Semi-Final 2: 6th Seed vs. 7th Seed
  • Final:
    • Final: Winner of Semi-Final 1 vs. Winner of Semi-Final 2
  • Third Place Match:
    • Third Place: Loser of Semi-Final 1 vs. Loser of Semi-Final 2

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Match Format:

  • All matches, including playoffs, follow the Best of 3 Games format.
  • Game scoring: Each Game played to 21 points, with a 2-point lead required to win a Game.

Player Eligibility:

  • All players must be registered and approved prior to the tournament.
  • Any changes in team composition must be communicated and approved by the tournament organizers.
  • Each team must contain minimum 4 men and 2 women participants and who will participate in as the roster for the three different categories

Conduct:

  • Professional conduct is required at all times.
  • Unsportsmanlike behavior, including verbal abuse or physical altercations, will result in disciplinary action.

Equipment:

  • Players must use regulation badminton equipment, including shuttlecocks and rackets.
  • Players must bring birdies for all the matches - management won’t provide them

Health and Safety:

  • First aid kits are available at the facility

Refereeing:

  • Matches will be self-refereed. Teams are responsible for ensuring fair play and resolving disputes.
  • The tournament director’s decision on disputes is final if a resolution cannot be reached by the teams.

Appeals and Protests:

  • Appeals or protests must be submitted in writing to the tournament director within 30 minutes of the match conclusion.
  • The tournament director will review and provide a decision within 24 hours.

GENERAL

  • All participants and spectators must adhere to the rules and regulations set by Smash Sports.
  • Cooperation with Smash Sports officials and volunteers is required at all times. For any concerns or issues, please reach out to the tournament officials or Smash Sports administrators.
  • Dispose of any waste or recyclables in the designated bins.
  • No food or drinks are permitted within the court area; designated eating areas must be used.
  • Remain away from the courts until you are called. Only assigned players and officials are allowed in the court area.
  • Do not walk across or near the courts during active play (during a rally).
  • Smash Sports is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
  • Smash Sports will not be liable for injuries sustained during the tournament.
  • Players must bring a valid ID showing their date of birth.
  • Feather shuttles will be used for play. Smash Sports will provide one shuttle per match. Any additional shuttles required must be provided by the players.
  • Smash Sports reserve the right to amend the schedule or rules as necessary. All changes will be communicated promptly.

DRESS CODE & EQUIPMENT

  • All players must wear appropriate badminton attire and non-marking court shoes.
  • Players without proper attire or shoes may not be permitted to play. Shoe & Racket rentals are available from Smash Sports for $5 per pair.
  • Smash Sports is not responsible for any damage to rackets or other equipment during the tournament.
